Idle hands are the devil's workshop.  People would need to take out their own garbage, cook their own food, clean their own house, drive for someone, help at the farm and grocery store.  If nobody works, nobody eats or stays warm and dry.  If people were not required to spend their whole lives at jobs designed for consumerism to feed the rich and exploit the planet, they would have time to work on their own life and help their neighbors.  People work if they need to, that is how financial oppression works.

'Just improve your skills' is the most detached from reality tropes from the privileged.   How, get better at your current job which you are already proficient?  Uproot your life at great expense and move to a more expensive neighborhood?  Stop working and pay for schooling in addition to your bills with money you don't have?  Spend all your free time schooling part time with money you don't have?  Quit your job and start at the bottom of another career for less money?  Employers will hire the younger or experienced applicant anyway and you can't prove discrimination.

The ton is derived from the tun, the term applied to a cask of the largest capacity. This could contain a volume between 175 and 213 imperial gallons, which could weigh around 2,000 pounds and occupy some 60 cubic feet of space.

The tun (Old English: tunne, Latin: tunellus, Middle Latin: tunna) is an English unit of liquid volume (not weight), used for measuring wine, oil or honey. It is typically a large vat or vessel, most often holding 252 wine gallons, but occasionally other sizes were also used.

Flashy answers with whistles and bells impress and confuse while the rich laugh all the way to the next hoard, and people don't like to hear economies are simply based on choices made by the people with the money to make the choices. Imagining it based on external forces, complex and mysterious is much more stimulating, and believable as we have been conditioned. Like how a tantalizing conspiracy theory fills the brain with endorphins. It is easier to control the public if you keep them ignorant, sick, poor and constantly move the goal posts. This will insure downvotes.
